1. Do you offer beginner classes or do I need to be an experienced rider?
We don’t offer beginner classes but each class can be adapted to each person’s fitness level. In an indoor cycling class, each rider controls the resistance on their bike and the speed of their pedals. This means that you can choose how much to exert yourself during class. You’ll see people of all ages and fitness levels in our classes. The capable instructors at McMinnville Cycle and Sport will help you get started and guide you through your ride, but it’s up to you to decide how hard you want your workout to be.
2. Is the seat comfortable?
Some riders might find the seat to be a bit hard or uncomfortable at first. You can borrow a cushioned gel seat, or you may wear padded cycling shorts. However, in no time at all most riders find that they get adjusted to the seat and will forgo the gel seat and/or padded shorts.
3. Do you provide towels?
Yes, we’ll provide a small sweat towel. Trust us, you’ll need it!
4. Do you have showers?
Please call the studio for more information on purchasing shower punch cards to use at Spa Bliss.
5. Do you provide child care?
Yes! We are happy to provide child care for you while you are attending a class at McMinnville Cycle and Sport. Child care is available from 8:30 – 10:30 AM and 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Your child’s spot MUST be reserved ahead of time.
6. How is McMinnville Cycle and Sport different from other gyms?
It’s true, McMinnville Cycle and Sport is not your typical gym. There’s no glaring florescent lighting, stacks of barbells, or a line of stair masters. We’re and indoor cycling gym with a variety of classes that will keep you fit and excited about exercise.
We are the only indoor cycling studio in Yamhill County with the Schwinn AC Performance bike featuring virtual contact resistance technology. Since we share studio space with McMinnville Crossfit, we also offer the great opportunity to combine indoor cycling with a crossfit workout for a combination of cardio and cross training exercises that is not available anywhere else.
Our certified instructors are well trained and passionate about exercise. They’ll take the time to say hello, get you set up on the equipment, and make sure you’re comfortable before each class begins.
We think upbeat music is an inspiring addition to any workout. We have a fabulous new sound system and a constantly changing playlist. You’ll hear lots of favorites and plenty of new things too!
7. Will indoor cycling bulk up my thighs?
Indoor cycling will not bulk up your thighs, it will shape and tone them but there will be no bulking up – we simply don’t use enough resistance for a long enough period of time to do so.
8. Will indoor cycling improve my running or outdoor cycling?
Enthusiastic runners who added indoor cycling to their routine report a lot of benefits. Indoor cycling is a great way to avoid over training and give your knees and feet a break from pounding the pavement. Indoor cycling can also help balance your leg muscles, strengthening muscle groups that aren’t normally tested during running.
If you are an outdoor cyclist, training indoors gives you the change to vary your workout and test your strength in ways that aren’t possible on the open road. Try our indoor cycle workout with resistance bands to vastly improve your upper body and core strength.
And remember – we do live in Oregon! An indoor workout keeps you moving even when the days are grey and rainy. And we all know that a bit of exercise helps combat those rainy winter blues.
9. Is indoor cycling safe for people with knee or back problems?
It is always best to check with your doctor before beginning a new exercise program, especially if you are not used to a regular exercise routine. Indoor cycling is considered a low-impact exercise, and is often recommend by physical therapists and chiropractors. Our instructors will help get you set up on the bike, and will always answer any questions you might have. If your knees and/or back start to hurt, let us know. Often all you’ll need is a simple bike adjustment.
10. Do I need special shoes to ride?
You do not need special cycling shoes to attend class. Our bikes accept SPD clips, and also have riding cages, so any running/training shoe you wear for other forms of exercise will work!
